I bought out the whole supply

Chao is one of the best vegan cheeses I've had, and I've been a vegan for 17 years.
Ok substitute

Umm, I'm kinda confused by reviews saying original "tastes just like cheese." It does not taste anything like cheese to me, but it's not terrible. I bought this along with two other vegetarian "cheeses," and I was SO excited to try this one because of the reviews. However, I tried the others and was somewhat disappointed, then tried Chao, and it tasted pretty much like both the others (Parmela Nut Cheese and Tofutti). I did grow to like it on crackers because of the texture.
A revelation!

I have a serious sensitivity to milk protein and haven't had cheese, milk, cream, yogurt, etc in more than 20 years. Until today. Today I had my first grilled cheese sandwich in more than 20 years. Chao tasted, melted, and made me swoon just like I had hoped. My only teeny tiny complaint is that it is a bit -- just a bit -- salty, but that's a price I'm more than willing to pay. Thank you, Field Roast!
first vegan cheese I ever liked to eat plain! YUM!
From Kari Olsen of Philomath, Oregon on .
I absolutely love the Chao cheeses. I was a major cheese-hound before I became vegan, and I've tried MANY kinds of vegan cheese. I found some vegan cheeses I like a lot in recipes, like vegan macaroni and cheese or nachos, but this is the only vegan cheese I've ever liked to eat just plain. I used to love eating mozzarella or Monterey jack plain too, and the creamy original reminds me of those white cheeses or Swiss.
I like the spicy kind on vegan burgers, or for short-cut grilled cheese - toast bread in the toaster, then put the cheese slice on and melt in the microwave. If I can stop myself from eating the slice plain while the bread is toasting!
I like both the taste and the aftertaste of the creamy original so much, I've been having it plain for dessert!
best vegan cheese option
From Anonymous of ann arbor, Michigan on .
definitely the best vegan cheese option out there. it's expensive but i wouldn't want to eat this like every day anyways. just something special every now and then.
